The Coronavirus will put many of our Broken Arrow small businesses on life support. While health officials scramble for ventilators and policy makers search for meaningful assistance, what should a small business owner do right now?
Everyone is monitoring the statistics of infections and deaths on website dashboards, but 100% of businesses are infected with this virus and many will not recover.
So what do we do?
I wish I had a silver bullet answer, but truth is no one does. While the pandemic may be over in weeks, the economic impact is devastating and will likely last much longer than anyone expects. My heart breaks for my entrepreneurial colleagues in my community and at the same time I am in the same boat with my own company, bailing the sinking ship. It is hard, unexpected, and unprecedented. The speed at which all of our dreams for our business are turning into nightmares is overwhelming. We love our people, our products, and our professions. But this crisis is forcing some tough decisions that nobody wants to make. We don’t know how long this will last, how hard we will fall, or even how to get ourselves and as many as we can through this terrible economic crisis.
I want to help. I am not sure how. But, no one should have to do it alone.
Isolation or ‘social distancing’ may solve the health crisis, but we need connection and collaboration to save our communities entrepreneurial economy. I am suggesting a series of online meetings over the next several weeks with local business owners to share their thoughts, insights, and struggles in a way that supports one another in making rationale decisions for our future.
If you are interested in coming together to get through this crisis, complete the sign up form and I will coordinate an online group meeting. There is no charge, no expectations, and no judgements. I want your help in navigating this event as much as I want to be helpful. I have some kickoff materials to start the conversation, on rationalizing our FEAR, some practical tips on analyzing your FINANCES, and finding FOCUS on what’s important now. I can setup a WebEx for those who want to participate, and then we can see where it goes from there. The point is to break free from the isolation (figuratively) and find our path forward.
